Many seem to forget (or never knew) that States are not just meaningless boundaries of one country…States are countries unto themselves. We are “United” but not without the constitution or BOR.

Your comment summarizes my understanding of the Electoral College. We are a Constitutional Republic. The electors (who in my state are also voted on) from each “state” vote to elect the President based on the majority, popular vote of that state, at least theoretically.

Please, share your thoughts regarding the Electoral College. This is something I have tried to understand well enough to explain to others. Sometimes I wonder about my understanding, especially after reading stuff😉 on the internet.

Too much of this country’s founding history has been twisted or changed to trust today’s internet sources. It sounds to me like you already understand as much as I do about the EC, but this is what I know.

The votes are distributed according to how many senators and representatives the state has based on population - this is determined by census data. (which is why democrats want illegals counted during the census - they want to tip the scales)

Using electors gives even sparsely populated states a voice. When you need 270 votes, Alaskas 3 electors can come in pretty handy. But Alaskas population, can not compete in the presidential arena on individual popular votes.

This is also why the liberals are trying to turn Texas blue-Texas has 40 electoral votes, second only to California which has 50+ .

I’m not sure if either state or any state can split votes among electors (some voting republican and others voting democrat)
