So was Robert Clary (who played "Corporal LeBeau"). He even had the tattoo on his arm to prove it (which is why he was always shown with long sleeves, I'm told).

Now that you mention it, I've always considered Werner Klemperer to be like the coolest guy ever, who's ever been on TV. Not sure why, because I was obviously just a kid and frankly didn't know much about Jewish, or about Klemperer's story.

I just considered it cool the way he played Colonel Klink, playin the nazis as totally stupid *****. Cooler than John Wayne. An episode of Hogan's Heroes was a good or bad episode according to how much Klink was in it.

THEN later in life I learned the guys story.
