Some stores have moved from self-checkout to highly supervised (watched over) self-checkout.

They would be better off to put that guard in a cashier position. Less shoplifting and better service.

And what is with the Kroger stores who cannot seem to have enough guards for the self-checkout areas? So, they close two-thirds of the stations, and everybody waits in a line, no matter what they do.

I will wait in line for the cashier. It is often faster.

Our target store has supervised self checkout and the line is usually very long. The Target staff at the self checkout area are both helping customers with check out issues and trying to watch that customers are scanning all they brought to check out. I don’t think it is working, as now also some store items (quality men’s underwear for instance) are now locked behind glass panels over the shelves and require store assistance to unlock a panel (there is a nearby button that can be pressed).
