A Las Vegas criminal who flung himself over the judge's bench and attacked her last week appeared before her again on Monday to be sentenced to 19 to 48 months in prison.
Deobra Redden, 30, launched himself at Clark County District Judge Mary Kay Holthus on Wednesday with the words 'nah **** that b****' as she rejected his pleas for more probation.
Now, he was brought back into Holthus' courtroom in shackles, wearing a spit mask on his face and orange mitts on his hands, flanked by a group of jail officers.
He was sentenced up to four years in prison for a felony battery charge stemming from a baseball bat attack last year. The 'flying felon' was initially was charged with assault but reached a deal with prosecutors and pleaded guilty in November to a reduced charge of attempted battery resulting in substantial injuries.
Redden faces new felony charges for launching himself at the judge, who is considered a 'protected person' in Nevada, but refused to make an initial court appearance for the charges. He is expected back in court on Tuesday for a hearing related to these new charges, reported KTNV.
Court video showed Holthus fall back from her seat against a wall when Redden landed atop her and grabbed her hair, toppling an American flag onto them, as she begged him to stop before security staff managed to haul him off.
The marshal along with the judge attempt to dodge the attack, but Redden threw himself on top of both of them and began to brutally beat-up Holthus.
He was not shackled or in jail garb at his sentencing hearing on Wednesday because he had been released from custody as part of his plea deal.

This is how he should have been shackled up for the first time he met this judge. Somebody needs to get fired for that gross oversight. “The Flying Felon” indeed!
This animal should never again see the light of day.
The guy’s clearly still pissed off that his mother named him ‘Deobra’. I would be too.
Good on her for not recusing herself from the case.
I'm just glad someone knows the proper spelling of "marshal."
If he does, someone will die next time. Rabid animals need to be put down.
Skeet!!
Feral animal, not really human.
Just shoot them down and be done with them.
Just to be clear, the sentence she handed out was already submitted before he attacked her. Nothing changed. He got 19-40 months for the crime he was there for in the first place.
He will be tried in another court in front of another judge for the crime of assault and battery on this judge. I doubt he will be out of prison for at least 10 years, maybe more.

I agree.

Pretty soon he could be the frying felon.
Boy named Sue syndrome.
“attempted battery resulting in substantial injuries”
So...just WTH does that actually mean? If ‘substantial injuries’ were the result, how can you characterize the battert as ‘attempted’?
Makes no sense...
...battery...
He should have been shot the second he went airborne.

Makes sense in bizaro world.
I don’t recognize this world any more.
Half the people I see can’t get out of their pajamas.
The Hannibal Lecter mask is an improvement. Primitive savage. But then, this is the case with 90% of urban cannibals. /spit
