There was a time when you could try on shoes and stand under an xray to see how they fit. Friend of mine who is about 7 years older than I (I’m 72) said he remembered doing that as a kid at the shoe store.
They also used to stick radium rods up one’s nose for chronic sinus issues.
There are plenty more stories like that. Trust the government science.
Yeah, I’m one of those radium kids. When I was 10 I had radium on rods shoved up my nose to get the radium close to my inner ear to reduce the swelling from chronic ear infections. This was a treatment developed by the Air Force to get infected pilots back flying sooner. Since we lived next to a base I got selected to try it too. Over the years there’s been allegations of cancers and brain tumors from the treatments, but so far, I haven’t had any of those problems. (Knock on wood)
