“Who’s advocating for invading “Russia”? “

Russia will br there for the final battle.

Wellington isn’t under appreciated in England.
Napoleon should have concentrated on destroying the Russian armies. Instead he went straight for Moscow.
Hitler should have went straight for Moscow. Instead he concentrated on destroying the Russian (Soviet) armies.
It’s a side point. But I put Napoleon in the same rough category as Hitler. Both men turned a failing country around. Then they both went crazy, and tried to rule all of Europe. In trying to do so, they left death and destruction everywhere.
It amazes me how so many people admire Napoleon today. He left French bones from Spain to Syria to Moscow. And in the final analysis, he was a total loser.
Ludendorff & Hindenburg, 1916-18
- ? Whats the problem? Just send in Lenin first, easy-peasy!
Marquis Oyama, 1905
- Ok, Mukden may not be Russia-Russia, but you wouldnt think so from all the whining.
One could argue that Hitler was an upgrade over the pathetic Weimar Republic.
I give full credit to Napoleon for ending the Reign of Terror, and then defending France against the invaders who wanted to restore the old Bourbon monarchy. Han Napoleon stopped there, he’d be seen as another George Washington today.
But Napoleon couldn’t stop there. He had to have Spain, and Italy, and the German states, etc. And so he ended as a complete failure on the fields of Waterloo.
Sorry for the rant. But this is a pet peeve of mine, that such a loser would be celebrated today. I’d like to say more, but I’ve got a cloud to yell at. 🙂
Wise analysis. I have studied the French revolution with great interest, under Jacques Guicharnaud no less, who was a delight. Napoleon, like Hitler, was the man for his time, and took it all too far.
Well, the Revolution actually was rather involved with attacking other European powers long before Napoleon took over the show.
We Americans also can be thankfully that Napoleon pretended to be allowed to sell the Louisiana Territory to us, and Jefferson pretended he was allowed to buy it. It stuck.
I studied military history in 1966. We learned that one should never engage in a land war in Asia.
I tell you this, I called off my planned invasion of Russia the moment I heard of this insightful warning.
NeoCon elites.
Neither link advocates invading. Just thinking about how to cope when the current “Federation” centrifuges itself apart.
Actually there is incredible mineral, agricultural and timber wealth in Russia.
If you look at purchasing power parity Russia is roughly the same as the United States.

👍🏻 You are probably making a good decision there. However, I am currently playing a game of Risk with some friends. I will not move into Ukraine. I might regret this, but my invasion of Kamchatka will continue as planned. I’ve already made the appropriate announcement.
Sure. But natural resources are not the most important thing in making a great economy.
Russia is a great example. Lots of resources, managed very badly for the benefit of a very few oligarchs.
Germany did well in 1914.
If you like Risk, try out Axis & Allies. Outstanding board game. There is also a free computer game version called TripleA that isn’t bad. The game is easy to win against the computer, so is best to play with friends.
“Ludendorff & Hindenburg, 1916-18”
A+
Thanks for touching base. Since you brought it up, I really don’t like Risk. Forces that are fighting can keep on attacking and moving, over and over again. Yet forces that are not in contact with the enemy can move at most one space.
This is the exact opposite of reality.
I have yet to find a game that is not complicated, yet realistic. I will look into Axis & Allies and TripleA. Thanks.

LR
Add this to the extensive list of meaningless twaddle Elon has said but the press couldn't wait to run in 72-point banner headlines.
