Winter Storm Ember will likely be the first snowstorm in quite a while for parts of the East. Dangerous travel conditions and some power outages are possible due to heavy snow, ice, rain and wind this weekend.
Here's where the storm is now: Ember is bringing snow and rain to portions of the Central and Southern Plains. Below is a look at the latest radar showing where this system is producing precipitation right now. Snowfall totals in these areas will generally be light to moderate.

SUNDAY...
* WHAT...Heavy snow. Snow accumulations 2 to 6 inches for eastern
Sierra communities along Highway 395 with 8 to 16 inches above
7000 feet, including Mammoth Lakes. Winds gusting up to 50 mph in
the lower elevations and 80 to 100 mph over Sierra Ridges. Wind
prone locations along US-395 could see gusts up to 65 mph at times
Saturday late morning and afternoon.
* WHERE...Mono County.
* WHEN...From 10 AM Saturday to 10 AM PST Sunday.
* IMPACTS...Travel could be very difficult to impossible due to
whiteout conditions. Very strong winds could cause damage to trees
and power lines.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Lake effect snow may develop along the south
side of Mono Lake on Sunday leading to localized higher snow
totals. This could impact travel along Highway 395 and CA 120.
ONLY if they survive the storm.

I get it. Still it was, in spite of the unfortunate name thing, the best article I could find on the storm.
Maybe if we fan the ember into a roaring fire it will melt the snow.
We’re supposed to be getting just snow but amounts are uncertain.
A few years ago, we had one storm that was only supposed to be a foot or so and ended up with 40+ inches.

There’s something to that. Naming weather personalizes it and makes it easier to remember thus making it easier to propagandize.

Here in SW PA, Jan is coldest, but we get our biggest snows in Feb and March.
