Why not just ban the sport outright? That’s the only thing missing from this Kamala Harris word salad . . .

Two good games yesterday. I had enough after Bama Michigan so I missed UW Texas. I hope UW wins it all.

Additional thoughts:

- Dump the portal - if you want to transfer, you sit a year as before. Exceptions can be made for particular, well-defined hardships, but teams of hijacked mercenaries are the future of college ball, and that ain’t good

-Require geographic limits for ALL conferences - the areas defined as limits can be greater in the west than the northeast, but conference games like USC vs Rutgers are just a joke.

-And most radically of all, give players an option: free tuition, room and board, basic living expenses, and an actual education OR NIL money, that they can use to pay for their education, etc, (meaning they’d have to qualify for admission to the school they’re in), but they wouldn’t have to go to class at all if they had no interest in an education - they’d just be minor league football (or basketball) players, suiting up in a particular set of school colors. A sizable fraction of the best players (certainly not all) have no interest in classes at all - why perpetuate the hypocrisy? There are kids who’ll know the value of a half-million dollars worth of schooling (if they pick the right school and a legitimate major) - if they can get that by playing ball, more power to them.

Exactly. But E$PN has a financial interest in the SEC and Alabama has the loudest fan base in the SEC so they system is rigged so an undeserving ALabama team gets in.

Chasing big money is well on the way to killing big college football just as sure as can be. Gone are the days when you could spend the off-season arguing about who was really the best team, after spirited games in the four big New Years bowls, no “playoffs,” and the Coaches poll and the AP poll often unofficially crowning different teams. No longer are there traditional matchups like the Rose Bowl once had. Even traditional conferences are no longer recognizable after this year, as everyone shifts and changes to follow the money. Yeah the whole thing is a sick mess. I’m about done with it.

I love college football but not nearly as much since the Buckeye players traded their golden pants for tatoos. Very disappointing. Sad day. No tradition. Nothing is sacred except the green back.
The Big Ten League is meaningless.

That was too easy. Reminded me of that Austin Powers movie.

One of the greatest days in UW history was when Sark bolted to USC, where he also fell flat on his face, then rebuilt his reputation as OC for Alabama.

I know he was an alcoholic when all that happened and it appears he has his life back on track, but Texas better get used to being good, but never good enough.

“but the system itself is corrupt as hell, which is to be expected as higher ed devolves to higher ed, inc - just another racket, fronted by DEI incompetents like Harvard’s plagiarist-in-chief.”

You read a lot of dumbassery on these sports threads - but sifting through all the huffing and puffing the real culprit is the NCAA, they disgust me as much as Xiden. They think that the mentally ill sex pervert who goes by Lia Thomas is a girl. I feel bad for those west coast schools that have to come way out here, it’s not going to help them if it doesn’t work. You’ll have Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State, Washington, Oregon and others eliminating each other while their precious SEC gets an automatic team in. The NCAA is the GOPe of college football.

Nah — UW isnt a PAC-X team anymore they are a midwest league team now. This upcoming game is an in-conference scrimmage.

Yes, if they can afford the ticket, they should be smart enough to be able to find NRG Stadium in Houston Texas.

"E$PN and Kirk Herb$treit’$ nightmare scenario. No SEC team in the championship. They rig the system so Alabama gets in and then they proceed to lose."

Exactly right. Georgia-Washington, and then Michigan beats that winner? Only then would I believe. Now I have to root for the dog, although full credit to Michael Penix Jr., reminds me of Lamar.

It's how they play favorites, the worst-case being North Carolina basketball, although at least karma has caught up with that shitshow.

The Texas defensive backs weren’t terrible. Phenix is just that good. The Washington receiver group is the best in the country. All the long passes from Penix had to be perfectly thrown.

The officials got very lucky.

When the Washington player was hurt near the end of the game, the game clock should have started on the ready to the Referee’s ready to play signal. Washington could then have run off another almost 25 seconds off the game clock or Texas ŵould have had to take another time out if they had one left.

How could the officials not known that is the rule

I love the NIL and transfer portal, mostly because 4-5 star recruits who don’t get an opportunity to play at their first schools aren’t stuck on the bench for 2-4 years.

Before the transfer portal, the big powerful schools could very good to great players on their bench and not have to play against them at other schools.

NIL and the transfer portal as it currently exists is not going away. The U.S. Supreme Court made that a fact of life in their ruling on the NIL. It’s going to be impossible to prevent a player from going to another school if they can make more money. The lawsuits to fight any changes would be filed immediately.

When is the last time the NCAA won a law suit?

The Huskies were portrayed as the under-dawgs. However, those Dawgs won over the Texas Longhorns at the Sugar Bowl, 37 to 31. Texas would have had one less score if Germie Bernard hadn’t dropped the ball on the five yard line that was punted to him; giving the ball back to the Longhorns. Now the Huskies face Michigan in the championship to be played Jan. 8th in Houston.

To watch the Huskies’ quarterback Michael Penix Jr. is like watching magic. During the Sugar Bowl, he completed 29 of 38 passes for a total of 430 yards and threw two touchdowns. No wonder he was a Heisman Trophy finalist.
