Yes, it is always disappointing when the scholar athletes from a great bastion of academic integrity like Alabama gets edged out.

I used to care about college football. Now it’s all a question of whose NIL slush fund is biggest and who wins in the portal trenches.

It is time to walk away.

I didn’t follow the Michigan disciplinary kerfuffle in any detail. I gather it had something to do with signal stealing. Of all the athletic offenses, I have to confess that I find signal stealing of zero concern. This has nothing to do with Michigan and the current hoo-haw; it goes way back to people wetting their britches about baseball. As far as I’m concerned, if you are not clever enough to camouflage your signals, you deserve to have them read, and congratulations to the opponent who is smart enough to crack your code. Who does this upset? The bookies and bettors? Probably, and that’s probably where the angst is coming from, which means that the NCAA, which whores over everything that should be of no interest to it, will jump through hoops to protect the gambling interests. Give me the days when quarterbacks called their own plays on the field, with limited substitutions so that coaches couldn’t shuttle plays in on every snap.
