Like rappers, Black and White musicians have been borrowing and"sampling" from each other for as long as pop music has been around. One of the Platters biggest hits, Smoke gets in your Eyes was originally written by two WHITE guys, Jerome Kern and Otto Harbach in 1933.

Apparently a lot of hip-hop “artists” are enamored of Kraftwerk. Yes, the German techno-pop group is heavily sampled.

SNL used some of their material for the Mike Myers “Sprockets” skits, too.
