I've got the same trouble with on of my cats. A vet suggests 100% pumpkin puree (not the kind you use to make pumpkin pie). It contains several healthy ingredients, such as potassium; phosphorous; calcium; vitamins A, C, and K; and lots of fiber.

Can Cats Eat Pumpkin?

Not for the entire meal, just as a supplement. Cats are obligate carnivores and need meat.

If that doesn't work I'll try your suggestion.

Filet mignon medium well and Alaskan salmon (freshly caught and sauteed in catnip butter).;-)

Canned pumpkin works great. For the mineral oil, dab some on her nose. She’ll wash her face and get the mineral oil down that way. Helps them to pass hair balls, too.

Good to know. Thanks!

Our two felines aren’t having any problems right now, judging from their “output”.

Canned pumpkin works too. Not the pie mix but the actual pumpkin. Or at least it does on dogs. Our dog must have gotten into something and has thrown up twice today. I just gave him a tiny bit of ivermectin and he’s sleeping all afternoon.

I throw a fish oil capsule in with my dogs food. It’s the first thing he eats.

much, much better to use non-chemical means, and do it every day to prevent constipation in the first place ..

we just had to deal with constipation in our cat because his diet is very low residue since it’s homemade cat food made almost completely of whole ground chicken thighs, hearts and livers ...

there’s plenty of liquid in the food, so that’s not the issue

our solution is to use what we use to keep ourselves regular, namely a mixture of pre-biotic inulin and a high potency 11-strain probiotic ...

our cat is already used to a breakfast appetizer of a canned fish mixture we make from no-salt, water-packed sardines, canned wild-caught salmon, and canned low-mercury, no-salt-added water-packed tuna, so now we mix in a small amount of inulin and a small amount of the probiotics with the fish mixture, and he snarfs the new mixture down just the same as before we started the anti-constipation additives ...

this is the probiotic we use:

https://www.customprobiotics.com/custom-probiotics-11-strain.htm

it’s expensive, but for a cat only a very small amount is needed every day ...

this is the inulin; likewise only a smallish amount is used or the stools can be too loose:

They sell laxatives for cats. It’s in paste form, and you put it on a front paw, which bugs them until they lick it off. It’s usually used for hairballs.

Catalax and Laxitone are the brands I remember; last time I bought Laxitone they actually had that name in fairly small type on the front of the tube and were selling it as Tomlyn Hairball Remedy. Just googled and don’t see Catalax any more.

Maybe PIAPS and Bidet* could benefit from this?

Neighbors dog drank his fill of used turkey fryer oil one night. Couldn’t imagine how much poop just one dog contains!

I take 1/2 tablespoon of psyllium powder (generic Miralax at much lower price) daily.

My 15 lb. dog was often straining and constipated, and I was worried about him. So I started stirring 1/4 teaspoon into his food daily. Now he is having normal bowel movements again.

I’m so surprised you posted this. This stuff really works because it adds additional fiber to their diets. More people should know about this!

I always use mineral oil on my cat. About a tablespoon mixed in with friskies shreds.

Never squirt mineral oil down a cat’s throat. It can get into lungs and make them very sick

I’ve heard that pumpkin pie filler works. It has a lot of fiber and they like it.

If they like it (and, man, can they be picky), I’ll have to try it.;-)

What drives me nuts is when they seem to really, really like something. So I buy a whole bunch of it! Then they don’t like it anymore.
