Yeah I have my grandpas books he received from being in wwii that document things, one is the war on the atlantic side, one the pacific. The camps had a lot of photos you wouldn’t just put in a normal saturday movie newsreel slot.

However, there are plenty of other contemporary images that show snow on the ground at the time of the liberation.

This one is not a Holocaust denier. She said the Russian video of the liberation of the camp was a re-enactment. She was there when the camp was liberated and there was at least a foot of snow on the ground. There was no snow in the video.

Plenty of people in Europe in 1945 could have pulled that off. Malnutrition was the rule for Europe in 1945.

Would not put it pass the Commies to do a reenactment and pass it off as the real thing. But they did liberate the camp. So what was her point? I agree that this only feeds the deniers delusions.

I agree. But doing so would be a crime in most of Europe and of late you can get sued for doing this in the USA. Hurting someone’s feels is a crime and the truth is not a defense.
Believe it or not the Yad Veshem (Holocaust Museum) in Israel has unequivocally stated that the rumors of Germans making soap from dead Jews is untrue. That does not change the fact that saying this will get you tossed in jail in most of Europe.
I agree with you because clearing away the rumors and falsehoods concerning the Holocaust refines the remaining truths and that is the best weapon against the malicious people who deny the Holocaust ever happened at all.

I had read about that many years ago. An Auschwitz survivor had said much the same thing.
But the fact remains that it was the Soviets who liberated Auschwitz (mainly because Auschwitz was in Poland, and was thus in the Soviets’ sector of the assault on Germany). Just as it is fact that it was the Brits who liberated Belsen and it was the Americans who liberated Dachau.
This Soviet film about Auschwitz uses footage shot during the first months after liberation (some scenes are staged). In addition to the horrors of the camp, the film also shows how the liberators understood Auschwitz in 1945. The film gives a graphic account of prisoners suffering from starvation, disease and SS violence. But there are also omissions and inaccuracies. The Holocaust hardly features, for example, as the role of Auschwitz in the systematic extermination of European Jews was not yet fully understood. And the figure of 4 million dead, often quoted in the first years after the war, was greatly inflated; historians now estimate that around 1.1 million prisoners died in Auschwitz.
