I would not involve the cops for any reason. Either put them out at gunpoint or wait til they go to the grocery and take possession and throw their chit out on the lawn and change the locks.
The cops will let them back in even if the cops have to batter the door down for them , if you don’t do a formal eviction. and they may fight you the whole way. If you do a formal eviction the losers may fly into a rage, attack you when you present the papers, or at minimum will stall and destroy to the very last minute.
