House Bill 621, sponsored by Republican Florida state Rep. Kevin Steele, was put forward in response to Jacksonville resident Patti Peeples, who made national headlines earlier this year when several squatters moved into her Jacksonville property and caused nearly $40,000 in damages.
Peeples first discovered that two female squatters broke into a rental property she owned after she sent a handyman to make repairs in anticipation of a home inspection after she showed an interested buyer the home 48 hours before.

“Steele’s bill would allow for the immediate removal of squatters by law enforcement if they can’t produce a notarized lease from a landowner or proof they are paying rent”
Apparently the loophole is right now documents showing right to occupy the house need no validation e.g. notorization therefore the issue must go through civil court.
It’s unbelievable that state legislators ll over the country haven’t addressed it.
I can assure you if THEIR properties were impacted they’d get off their lazy asses and fix it.
The cops will let them back in even if the cops have to batter the door down for them , if you don’t do a formal eviction. and they may fight you the whole way. If you do a formal eviction the losers may fly into a rage, attack you when you present the papers, or at minimum will stall and destroy to the very last minute.
I disagree. Do you really think that someone who is going to break into a house then trash and destroy it cares about their credit record/FICO score? Half of them probably don't know what a FICO score is.
Why continue to give them food stamps? If they are able-bodied enough to break into a house they are able bodied enough to work. Work=paycheck=groceries.
If someone chooses to be a "squatter" they should go to jail. Coddling of criminal behavior is a large part of the problem.
I remember reading a story earlier this year about a guy that did just about that although instead of a confrontation he staked out the property and waited. When the squatters left he broke in (isn’t that a shame having to break in to your own property) and threw their crap out and changed the locks, all before they returned.
So essentially what he did was what they did to him in reverse.
Brilliant but a real shame he had to go through all that just to regain control of his own rightfully property.
It’s hard getting an apartment in most cities. Even activists lowlifes know that...you do this in addition to evicting them. In addition to arresting them.
Then cities with these problems apply for grants so home owners don’t have to pay to evict each criminal - each lowlife.but
Commies behind this ‘squatters’ ploy are attacking land owners - capitalists. This is another intentional destabilization act.
A model for other squatter-friendly states.
There is no money in it for the cops. Until they find a way to make it profitable, they aren't going to help you.
Would Mossad call the police?
Neither would I.
It’s a Civil Issue, they say.
Then the squatter can refuse to leave his cell.
Never should have been a loop hole. Move them to the elite and congresscritter estates.
If you don’t call the cops the cops won’t get involved. The owners always make the mistake of calling the cops.
It’s a state issue. Nothing in the Constitution gives the federal government the power to do anything about it.
wow. why don’t you relax.
Perp should have ankle monitor attached and not removed until the debt is poid.
Many many many years ago, some bikers and I were paid $50 each and many cases of beer to REMOVE some squatters from a property. We went in at 8:00 PM while they were there and literally threw them and all their stuff out of the house and destroyed most of it while we were doing it.
The squatters were warned that their lives would be forfeit if they returned or tried to challenge it. The bikers were very scary. I was basically homeless at the time and need money for food.
I like your Dad’s style. See my post further down on my adventures many years ago.
Bingo, once you involve the police, they will tell you that you are the problem and the costs of eviction go to you.
Give some bikers some beer and have at it.
It’s a Florida state law. Not federal law
“The bill, filed in November, would abolish squatters’ rights in Florida, a state that has become one of the most susceptible to the problem in recent years.”
