An unaccompanied 6-year-old child flying on Spirit Airlines to visit his grandmother in Fort Myers, Florida, was instead put on a flight to Orlando.
In an emailed statement to CNN, Spirit Airlines apologized to the family, saying on Dec. 21, the child was supposed to fly from Philadelphia International Airport to Southwest Florida International Airport in Fort Myers.
Instead, Spirit Airlines said the child was "incorrectly boarded" on a plane to Orlando. "The child was always under the care and supervision of a Spirit Team Member, and as soon as we discovered the error, we took immediate steps to communicate with the family and reconnect them," the airline said in a statement to CNN. CNN affiliate WINK-TV spoke to Maria Ramos, a woman who identified the child as her 6-year-old grandson. and responsibility of transporting all of our Guests seriously and are conducting an internal investigation. We apologize to the family for this experience."

Thank God the flight landed not far away from the intended destination. Good thing the child didn’t get on a flight to Istanbul or Dubai.
I remember in the 80s a story about an (adult) man who was supposed to get on a flight from SF or Sacramento to Oakland, but got on a flight to Auckland, New Zealand.
The airline has refused to comment on how this happened and told the family nothing more than they are "investigating."
The airline says that "the child was always under the care and supervision of a Spirit Team Member" but no "caretaker" or "supervisor" noticed that the child was on the wrong flight or the captain would have radioed back to HQ as soon as they found out to let the family know before a childless plane landed in Ft. Meyers.

As I recall, he was flying on a New Zealand airline and was supposed to change planes in LA or Sacramento for the final trip to Oakland, but the New Zealanders told him that the plane was continuing on to Oakland. However, the flight seemed to be taking much longer than he expected, and when he heard the captain announce that they were flying over Tahiti, he got concerned. He finally landed in Auckland, pronounced "Oakland" in the New Zealand accent.
I had a cousin in 1959, age 7, who went 500 miles by Trailways, alone. He had some schedule and everything worked. Today? No one would let some kid travel like that on a bus.
Who would FLY on the worst airline in the USA? Spirit would be the least airline I’d be on. Heck, Breeze and Avelo are better.
Couldn't wait to get my license after that!!
