Sorry, this is not a good guy that should be cheered and freed. Maybe you and others can visit him in prison, maybe marry him even. There's always someone twisted enough for almost anything with prisoners.
He was NEVER convicted of murder or those deaths
What happened to innocent until proven guilty
Did he sell drugs?
Did he sell or facilitate the sale of illegal products and services?
Did he launder money?
Did he profit from these criminal activities?
Did people not die directly or indirectly from his activities?
Did he not conspire to commit murder? (I'll grant you that there doesn't seem to be any directly paid-for-murders so far, but there seems to be a repeated pattern of him paying to have murders committed.).
So, are any or all of these lies?
IMO, if there was real evidence those murders took place, the DOJ would have put him on trial for them and would have sought the death penalty.
His biggest crime was taunting and embarrassing the DOJ and Federal Government, politicians like Chuck Schumer wanted his head on a silver platter and got it.
It’s very unlikely he will ever see the light of day again.
If you are into any sort of Mafia history, look up the name of Anthony Senter who is scheduled to be released early next year, he was part of the DeMeo Crew of the Gambino Crime Family in NYC, he was convicted of being involved with at least 35 murders and is getting released from jail.
There is no logic to decisions like this.
I’ve gotten in the habit of checking the FReeper handle before I click on an article - and then skipping over articles posted by certain people. He is one.
Lately, as I scan comments in a thread, I skip past certain FReepers’ comments as well. It just becomes clear they have a certain agenda, and it’s NOT getting to the truth.
You hit the nail on the head
They threw the book at Ross it’s obviously an excessive sentence
In today's world where retail theft is legal in some states, the law is being applied to him by a tougher standard. Skirting their regulations is worse than murder to the corrupt in power.
They did the same thing to Irwin Schiff, letting him die in prison for telling people they didn't have to pay taxes. They're making an example of certain people. Now it's Trump.
I agree lets not rise to it
Merry Christmas
Apparently he hired multiple hitmen to kill people threatening to expose his criminal enterprise. Some scammed him, sending fake pictures, others were law enforcement. Turns out he was not very smart. The government apparently didn't pursue or convict him of any of this, plenty of other stuff that resulted in two life terms.
At worst, the government should go and convict him of more charges, make it 5 to 10 life terms. Is that really necessary?
And, yes, Merry Christmas. A day to celebrate all things, but not get a pass on cheerleading a convicted criminal, a drug dealer. No way. I have twin boys and one of my biggest fears is their exposure to and getting into drugs. I’ve seen enough of it in my family and we see it daily in our communities. So, yes, convicted drug dealers like Ulbricht get absolutely no sympathy from me.
I don’t know anything about this person, and I don’t come on FR for stories like this. I’m interested in geopolitics and specifically finding non-fake-news perspectives. I don’t have time to read everything, so I pick and choose.
You are too much of a knee-jerk anti-Trump contrarian for my tastes.
But I do hope you have a wonderful Christmas!
After indirectly answering me question as to who this is, and what he was convicted for, I have to agree with Reno89519 on this character. He is where he belongs, for he peddled nothing worthwhile. But instead of life n prison, I think he deserves death where the Lord can pass judgement upon him.
Whaaaat? This is the guy who ran the dark website Silk road, the dude is more responsible for distributing narcotics than Paoblo Escobar, he also tried to get 5 people killed. How about getting Paul Whelan released from a Russian prison?
There is no question Ross Ulbricht deserved to be sent to prison, I’ve always felt that way, the question is did he deserve life without parole.
Not to chastise you, but you haven’t really studied the situation, actually was a brilliant person, he was eventually caught on a laptop in a public library and the Federal Agents were led there by an email he sent years earlier, because using the dark web to run the website on servers hosted in a foreign country, he eluded the Feds for a long time.
That was my impression too. I was never a member of any libertarian group, but I read a lot from their most famous authors, all very rational and persuasive. But when I met any actual libertarians they were mostly obsessed with drug legalization and, to a lesser extent, pornography and prostitution. And the Ayn Rand Institute has become little more than a Zionist PR front.
The FBI agents investigating him stole quite a bit of bitcoin from him believing it was untraceable.
Poisoning the vine results in dismal of evidence gathered by poisoners.
Unless one is being politically persecuted by fascist hacks.
Generally, when I find myself agreeing with extraordinary claims being put forth by team fake narrative-as if Ulbricht orchestrated multiple murders and they let that slide-I’m wrong.
Same here but with record drug addiction-vicodin being the number one prescribed drug-record incarceration rates at $50k/yr minimum
it easy to conclude like the folks that blame guns, gambling, violent video games etc...inanimate objects instead of the underlying social problems are selfish, naive anything but compassionate conservatives.
The FBI who stole bitcoin deserve no breaks either. In fact, I am all for doing away with the corrupt FBI as well.
