"A Merry American Christmas” by Kate Smith, 1941
Columbia 36443
This record was released in 1941 and recorded before the US entered World War 2. It is a fitting song for what transpired on December 7, 1941, to help soldiers and their families as the war started and progressed. Years of horror were to come but I am sure this song by a very popular singer of her day helped many folks through the holiday seasons of the war.
Kate Smith was one of my mother’s favorite singers as she grew up. They were about the same age and my mother was just out of High School as Kate became a singing star. She always enjoyed catching her on the TV well into the 1960s and 70s.

From back when the American entertainment industry was pro-America. MAGA, even. GOD bless Kate Smith!
I’ve never heard the song before. Very, very nice! Thanks and Merry Christmas to you and yours.
I got to hear Kate Smith sing “God Bless America” when I attended the 1976 Rose Bowl Game. She was the Grand Marshal of the Tournament of Roses Parade.
We were playing her more recent Christmas record (relatively speaking) a few days ago. She had such a great voice!
