I came across this You Tube channel. This guy spends his time in an animal shelter sitting with dogs, trying to get them out of their shell in order to make them more adoptable.

What the heck? Some pretty nice dogs there. All our local shelters have is assorted varieties of Pit Bulls.
I found Rocky’s channel a while ago, and some of those dogs are in terrible condition when they first came in.

I understand that. A lot of shelters have pitties or pittie mixes and I understand why many don’t want to adopt them.
At the apartment complex where I live, dogs are allowed, but only after a meet and greet and a certification from a vet, but many breeds, not only pitties but also Rottweilers, German Shepards, Boxers, etc., and many other breeds are not allowed even though many can be great pets.
At my local animal shelter a lot of dogs are pitties or pitbull mixes, but not all.

I ran across these recently. Nice to see someone doing this.
My former roommate had a friend who had a boxer/pit mix and asked if we could take care of her while she went on a vacation.
She brought Leia over for a meet and greet first and she was such a love bug and such a well behaved and good girl we both agreed to let her stay.
My roommate had recently had to put down her 10-year-old Rottweiler due to cancer and it was really hard on her. Her Rottie ironically named Luke, tolerated me but never really bonded with me.
My roommate worked a night shift and sometimes after she left for work, Luke would sometimes come in my room, allow me to pet him for a short time, lay next to my bed but never in my bed and would very soon go back upstairs to my roommate’s room. He’d allow me to give him treats and lead him to the back yard to go potty in the middle of the night but not much else. Sometimes he’d howl in the middle of the night as he missed my roommate.
I have to admit that while I like dogs, I’m very much more of a cat person and my roommate was definitely more of a dog person but Leia really bonded with me.
Leia found my bed was a great place to sleep and would cuddle up with me as close as possible. She also had a habit of farting in her sleep 😊and was a bed hog, nearly pushing me out of the bed.
When I would go to work during the day, Leia would go upstairs with my roommate for a time but would soon be found sleeping in my bed. When I came home from work, she was overjoyed and nearly licked me to death. My roommate couldn’t understand why she liked me more than her.
And she was also very protective and would go to the window and bark at any dogs or people walking by. It was hard to get her to stop barking sometimes but I felt like she was trying to protect me.
I really missed her when she went back home and while I now in my own place would probably be more likely to adopt a cat, but if I could adopt a dog like Leia, I probably would.

I ended up watching several videos of his. He really seems to love dogs.
We have had rescues about the last 17 years from the same kill shelter down south and the large dogs we have adopted have been very smart and total love bugs. It’s the way to go for our family.
He does such a great job of being gentile, letting them show him when they are ready and slowly gaining their trust.

I’m a big believer in sitting with scared or hostile dogs.
Even guard dogs will settle down if you just sit by the fence and let them adjust to you, with a timid dog in a house, sitting on the floor and doing some reading will let them warm up to you at their own pace.
Sitting with dogs? Is that your Indian name?
