Russia has incentivized Ukraine to seek protection under the NATO umbrella. If Russia wants to keep Ukraine out of NATO then let them offer to withdraw from Ukraine in return for Ukrainian neutrality. I am sure that Ukraine would agree in a heartbeat.

Russia is in the four oblasts of the Russian Federation - Kherson, Zaporozhye, Donetsk and Luhansk.

Crimea is Russian.

Putin already made clear that he wants nothing less than the unconditional surrender of Ukraine and annexation by Russia.

There will not be any peace any time soon.
