Biography Dr. Paul Marik has extensive training in Internal Medicine, Critical Care, Neurocritical Care, Pharmacology, Anesthesia, Nutrition, and Tropical Medicine and Hygiene. He is currently a tenured Professor of Medicine and Chief of the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk, Virginia.

Dr. Marik is the second most published critical care physician, having authored over 500 peer-reviewed journal articles, 80 book chapters and 4 critical care textbooks. He has been cited over 43,000 times in peer-reviewed publications and has an H-index of 77. He has received numerous teaching awards, including the National Teacher of the Year award by the American College of Physicians in 2017.

A world renowned expert in the management of sepsis, Dr. Marik’s contributions to the understanding and management of hemodynamics, nutritional intervention, and supportive care practices in sepsis have transformed critical care throughout the world.

In January of 2020, Dr. Marik established a COVID-19 hospital treatment protocol (EVMS protocol), based on his safe, effective treatment protocol for sepsis.
