Some years ago, my father was a merchant marine officer and had to delay his tanker in its sailing from the Venezuelan port of Maricaibo. One of the crew had a girlfriend there and, after a spat, she came to the wharf just before the scheduled sailing time saying that she wanted to make up with the crewman. My father let him go down to the wharf to see her, with the admonition that the ship would sail on time and leave him if he was not back on the ship.

As it was, after a few minutes of conversation, the couple began to kiss -- but the Venezuelan woman had a razor blade clenched in her teeth and used it to badly slash her boyfriend on the lips and about the face. The woman also got a few jabs in with a knife. The crewman was badly hurt and had to be hospitalized, with the ship delayed for an hour or so while that was arranged.

Your story is a stark reminder of how unpredictable situations can unfold, even in seemingly ordinary circumstances. It highlights the complexities of human relationships and the potential for unexpected and, in this case, violent outcomes.
