BBC works with an organization called MediaZone which uses a WW2 technique to gather info on enemy casualties, using obituaries, hometown newspapers, and now, social media. May not be perfect but they try. Seems they may have finally gained the attention of the British Defence Ministry.

Ukraine info on Russian losses, on the other hand, is pure bullchit used to keep the public misinformed about the battlefield situation, and to keep Western aid flowing based on Ukd claims of success.

Choose your sauce.

I wouldn’t argue with those number substantially, I would add though those numbers are based on verified information, and if a death cannot be substantiated as happening directly from the war, or has not been found then they are not counted. So I would say the numbers a very basic bottom line figure and the number is likely higher either way using those numbers Russia has lost at least 5 times the number killed in less than two years than soviets reported lost in Afghanistan in 10 years(if you believe those numbers which seems unlikely)

Russia is not the Soviet Union and certainly not the Soviet Union of WW2, and if loses are as low as you and others state, curious why they are on their third or fourth mobilization?
