Too much prosperity. After the privations, shortages, and losses of WW I, Depression, and WW II, people wanted their kids to have a better life (a natural impulse). There was almost no hardship in the post-war era and Cold War. So kids were indulged and the work ethic faded. Then liberalism took advantage of the prosperity and life of leisure and taught “tolerance” which became a requirement to tolerate everything, even things that were intolerable a few years earlier. Now it’s not just tolerance, but adoption and celebration of perversions and embracing those who want to kill us (mohammaden jihadis).
We raised our kids to be hard working and self-reliant and they turned out well.
And while there was prosperity during several decades after WW II, there were also still many long lived STRIKES ( which workers didn't get paid during ) and also recessions throughout the '50s and parts of the '60s.
And happily, not everyone, in every generation raised.raises their children the WRONG way, which you and I are examples of.

I am finishing up raising the granddaughters by myself. 19 YO (U. of Idaho full ticket scholarship and also works on campus); 17 YO works on high school campus and is in accelerated college program; 16 YO does an amazing amount of babysitting). No problems at all (so far, knock, knock). All very much social conservatives and get involved in Christian learning activities with no prompting by me.
