Cuba signs various accords with Iran, pledges assistance in war effort against Israel

Iran’s President Ebrahim Raisi stressed the need for the joint commission to pursue the implementation of the agreements between the two nations, noting that closer economic and trade cooperation between Tehran and Havana will be effective in foiling the US sanctions.

Denouncing the Israeli regime’s crimes against Gaza as proof of the inefficiency and unfairness of the current international system, Raeisi called for a new fair system based upon the will of the free nations.

For his part, Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel highlighted the political commonalities between the two countries.

He also condemned the US’ cruel sanctions against Iran, deplored the international organizations’ inaction and passiveness regarding the Israeli genocidal crimes in Gaza, and stressed the need for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and the fulfillment of the rights of Palestinians.

Diaz-Canel also stressed the need to encourage innovation in trade with Iran, including plans to ditch the US dollar in trade exchanges, and promote cooperation in the health sector.

After the meeting, the Iranian and Cuban presidents signed a joint communiqué to strengthen strategic relations between the two countries.

They also observed a ceremony during which top officials from the two states signed seven documents and memorandums of understanding (MoUs).

Diaz-Canel became the first Cuban president to visit Iran after 22 years. Late Cuban leader Fidel Castro was the last president of the Central American country who traveled to Iran in May 2001.

Rather than pour our sweat equity into Ukraine we should have green lit Russia in return for giving us the green light to roll over that communist boil in the Caribbean…

A former US ambassador to Bolivia and member of the National Security Council has been charged with spying for Cuba for 40 years, the Justice Department announced Monday.

.....Rocha, a naturalized US citizen originally from Colombia, allegedly began aiding Havana as a “covert agent of Cuba’s General Directorate of Intelligence” in 1981, and his espionage activities continued to the present, the statement said......

Rocha, who served on the National Security Council from 1994 to 1995 in the administration of Bill Clinton and was the ambassador to Bolivia from 2000 to 2002 under Clinton and George W. Bush, was to appear in court later Monday in Florida.

Rocha joined the State Department in 1981 and rose through the ranks as a career officer, also serving in posts in Havana, Buenos Aires, Mexico City, the Dominican Republic and Washington.

His government posts offered him access to non-public information, including classified information, and the ability to “affect US foreign policy,” the government said in its statement.

The charges against him include: conspiring to act as an agent of a foreign government; acting as an agent of a foreign government without prior government consent; and using a US passport obtained by making false statements.

Rocha allegedly admitted his activities to an undercover FBI agent posing as a Cuban operative.

“Throughout the meetings, Rocha behaved as a Cuban agent, consistently referring to the United States as ‘the enemy,’ and using the term ‘we’ to describe himself and Cuba,” the Justice Department said.

Rocha praised late Cuban leader Fidel Castro and described his work for Cuba as “a grand slam,” the statement said.
