I am not completely sure. Normally it means that they teach something specialized there and I *think* in Woke Co it means you go to a “magnet” middle school first. Possibly even in elementary. It could mean that at least part of it is “magnet” or specialized and then part of it a normal school. Woke Co “reassigns” kids to schools every year so the concept of neighborhood schools is mostly dead here.
So at least some of the students are there for specialized learning. I am sorry that I don’t know more about that but we homeschooled our children and then put them in private school for high school. Woke Co schools were implementing Common Core among other things at the time, my children would pass at least two schools on the way to their assigned school and quite frankly, we did a much better job. Both of our children were National Merit Scholars and attended private colleges on scholarships. Our youngest graduated high school in 2012. I do frequently attend school board meetings where the board members mostly congratulate themselves for how many schools they go visit, how woke they are and very little attention is paid to academics or school safety.
I can’t wait for the next board meeting, it will be jam packed and “spicy”, I’m sure. The school board has spent a great deal of time this year developing a “parent policy” so they can kick any dissenters out of the school board meetings.
They all live in the neighborhood of Decatur, GA now, and are still best friends to each other.
My MS thesis (1992) "wrote the book" on the subject of the Social Maturity of Home School Students. You can download it from my we site HERE along with other interesting stuff.
While we lived in Durham, we attended King's Park International Church, and I participated in the Duke Language Partners Program for 10 years. Good times!
