An experienced livestock seller estimated each of the bleached animals was worth $500 to $700 less per head. He said after checking with buyers, the cattle that would’ve been worth about $2,600 per head was instead worth about $1,850.

Multiply times 195 head, and you have a serious loss of property value. That said, the rancher was lucky the property owner didn't decide to make the world's biggest bowl of chili when the cattle go on his land.

My comment stands (it’s a stretch). It seems that the courts agreed. If I was buyer, I’d happily take the discount, as the processed meat would (obviously) still command market price.

A few years back I had a problem with beef cows coming in my back yard and destroying my yard. In Pennsylvania if livestock wanders into your property you can keep the livestock,after you call the local Constable and he comes out and hears your case and does the paperwork. I told the land owner this and he quickly repaired his cow fence.

I get it NOW! Its like they painted cocks and/or balls ONTO the cows only they used bleach on dark areas of the cows to make the drawings more permanent.

Marking cows with bleach is a know practice to mark which cattle are headed to market.

When I was a little girl, I used to go out to my grandmothers farm in Nebraska and she would go down to call the cows to be milked. She would stand by the fence and yell, “Come boss, Come boss.” I always thought that was funny she gave them “boss” status.

I call bullshit, literally, on the marking of cull cows costing sale money at a market. Farmers aren’t woke or stupid. Marking bleach on a bull might reduce value cosmetically, but farmers aren’t like to sell pregnant cows or bulls for meat.
A marked cow, steer, or bull would be labeled as a Trespasser.

Colorado is a “fence out” state. If you’re not welcoming your neighbor’s animals, you fence them out.

Wyoming is a free range state IIRC. It is the duty of the landowner to fence them OUT, not the cattle rancher’s to keep them out.

I thought in the west it was free range. If you don’t want livestock on your property you must fence them out.
