Just when it seemed like Target had gotten rid of all the controversy it was embroiled in, this year, the retail chain was hit with yet another one. A viral TikTok video posted by @djdowneygirl exposed the franchise for misguiding customers with sale prices. The TikToker did this by removing the sale price placard of a few products to reveal the original pricing below, which turned out to be the same.
Netizens were outraged by the alleged scam perpetrated by the retail chain but many were even more disappointed at people for easily falling for such prices.

As for the people mentioned in the last bit: I wonder how many of them drove away from the store, alone in their car, with their next stop to get a 90th Covid booster.
I’ve heard that Wal-Mart did that with school supplies this fall.
Someone also posted on here that they knew someone who worked in retail and were told to take off the old tags and put on newer, much higher priced ones that were *marked down&* to a price that was higher than the one they cut off.
this has been going on forever -when I was a kid working stocking shelves, we used to sell something (doesn’t really matter what it was) at the regular price of $19.99 - I distinctly remember, each 3-4 months when we had it ‘on sale’ the management changed it to $24.99 for ‘the sale’ and advertised it in mailings - and we sold a lot more....and this was about 45 years ago; not much has changed.
That doesn’t surprise me, nor does it even upset me that much. Every shopper knows the Retailer’s goal is to get your money, in exchange of products or services. We know how desperate some of these retailers can be.
It’s the responsibility of each shopper to look around, compare prices before making a transaction. These stores are not set up just ‘to be nice’ to us.
The bottom line has always been their focus. Don’t let any of that ad copy on ‘Welcome to our FAMILY of the finest products in the land! A place where we care about YOU!!” fool you.
keep going to TarGAY, you deserve it...
The only few deals that actually occur on “Black Friday” (in my sphere of shopping) are software upgrades or purchases. I haven’t seen any deals that weren’t the same price as usual.
Black Friday prices are basically what you would have paid for the same thing pre-POTATUS. And it’s probably smaller and/or doesn’t work as well as before.
