At least 246 XL bully dogs will be euthanised when a ban on the breed comes into force at the end of the year, Sky News can reveal.
The dogs currently live in rescue centres run by the RSPCA, Blue Cross, Battersea Dogs and Cats Home, Dogs Trust and Mayhew, among others.
Under the ban, which comes into force in two phases, XL bullies cannot be lawfully rehomed or sold after 31 December.
It follows a spate of recent attacks and deaths involving the breed.

A bullet and feeding them to pigs would save a lot of money.
What they charge there, is crazy.
There are no bad dogs, but there certain;y bad people.
Australia doesn’t care.
I wonder what the real reason that liberals hate Pit Bulls are? It’s certainly not for the stated reasons.
They were bred solely to kill. What do you expect them to do?
They are bad dogs. The least they should do is sterilize them all.
Dogs proven vicious should be euthanized, but most are actually good dogs. Example from my life:
We fostered dogs for a couple of years for a local rescue, which is run by a Leftist idiot. She just wants to move the dogs as quickly as possible, and wound up adopting out a small Doberman mix puppy that was incredibly sweet to a family with two young boys, around 12 years old. We had this puppy for at least 4 months, mind you.
Pup was returned, claiming she bit one of her kids. My first thought was, “What? She was never aggressive with anyone!” Lo and behold, my neighbor leaned over the fence to pet the pup as she had for those 4 months, and the dog bit her. My Pit Bull pulled the pup off and saved my neighbor, who said that she didn’t know what would have happened had Greta not been there.
The foster left as one dog and came back totally different. My mom got a bad vibe from the boys, but the woman running the rescue adopted her out anyway, and now the foster dog is dead - had to be euthanized. We were heartbroken, and kept her ashes. I don’t doubt that they abused her.
Behavior, especially in dogs, can be corrected or encouraged, even aggression - to a point. I promise that somewhere someone encouraged aggressive behavior, on purpose or not, and that isn’t exactly the dog’s fault. As mentioned, dogs with records of aggression and which are deemed vicious should be euthanized (unless they’re protecting their Human from imminent harm, IMO), but not before then. If a dog hasn’t bitten anyone, there’s time to correct aggressive behavior.
To euthanize ALL dogs of a breed is obscene. They’re just going to create a huge black market for those dogs and make them MORE desirable amongst the wrong people.
There is absolutely no point in trying to talk logic or sense to bullydog haters. Even on this site, there are folks who have such a deep-seated irrational violent HATRED of the bully dogs they CANNOT hear truth or reason.
Don’t waste your breath. It’s like trying to explain that brown eggs taste the same as white eggs to a two-year-old.
I agree with you, I’ve had this argument before on FR and a lot of people would like to round up all bully breeds and euthanize them all, based on nothing but news reports and their own prejudices.
Are they’re bad dogs in the bully breeds absolutely, the same could be said for Dobermans, Shepards, Cane Corso, Malinois, etc., irresponsible people breed the aggressive ones, train them the fight and create problems for everyone else.
What about lions, tigers, bears, and sharks?
I don’t think those fall into the house pet category as dogs do.
I'm sure there are many PETA liberals who love Pit Bulls.
And some MAGA conservatives (me among them) who hate Pit Bulls.
One thing you have to understand about liberals is that their arguements are just means to their real reason. They don’t want to eliminate pitbulls because of the arguments they make. They want them gone for another reason.
Maybe as a means to eliminate private property.
I wasn’t aware that many liberals did want pit bulls eliminated. Whenever someone talks of eliminating them, all the PETA type animal lovers rush to their defense.
The drive is political and coming from somewhere. It’s not conservatives that are organizing themselves to eliminate the breed.
It could be a nonpartisan movement, including independents, moderates, and people not normally interested in politics. People, especially mothers, who are simply worried about dangerous dogs.
If you want to make those who want to eliminate bully breeds really irate, ask them to substitute bully breeds with Assault Rifles and the argument and goals are the same, just from people with different political goals.
Logically if you eliminate bully breeds, soon after, other breeds would be bred, to be aggressive and the calls to eliminate them would start up, until the only dogs left are chihuahuas and they can be pretty aggressive on their own.
How often have you heard gun grabbers says, no one needs an assault rifle, we don’t want to eliminate all guns just the weapons of war, etc...
It’s the exact same argument using two different objects of hate by different people.
