three of my great uncles were Army Air Force pilots
one (C-47) was strafed over Italy
he later got shot down in the English Channel on D-Day
he said hitting the water was like hitting a concrete parking lot-but the only injury was his navigator getting a gash on the forehead, all the crew were rescued
after the war he helped evacuate the hospitals in Europe
lived to be 106 years old
another great uncle loved to fly so much that he became a crop duster after the war...his wife made him give that up after he got tangled in some wire
