Meet the New Dark Age
American Thinker ^ | 24 Nov, 2023 | Mark C. Ross

Not quite the same as the old Dark Age. The old Dark Age happened when the corporate governmental structure of Rome collapsed, allowing hordes of tribal heathen to overrun what had been the empire’s domain. Today’s Dark Age is instead happening because modern governments continue to become ever more powerfully intrusive into what used to be private affairs, using their assumed authority to enforce some sort of contrived orthodoxy and thus moving towards politicizing just about everything.

This is particularly obvious in the various fields of science. Having previously been the means by which civilization crawled out from the old Dark Age, science today is festooned with corruption. Back when it was tasked with the objective process of unraveling the mysteries of our world, science flourished. Nowadays science is largely in the business of acquiring politically controlled government grants. Exploiting various sexy fields of study to provide politically useful data and conclusions -- even if their accuracy is suspect -- is the key to professional success. Weather and climate are obviously at the top of the list for this kind of work. In spite of all this, there still are some non-governmental interests that manage to privately fund research, mostly to develop profitable and patentable innovations… much as in the past.

The mystical nature of climate hysteria harkens back to the old Dark Age. No detailed explanations are ever presented to support the alarm -- such as how does CO2 actually trap heat on the Earth’s surface, especially when it’s only less than 0.05% of what “air” is made of? Faith in the concept is supposed to be sufficient… and skeptics are verbally pilloried for their deviation from orthodoxy. Sound familiar?

“..Is there anything that the left cannot corrupt?..”

There’s nothing new under the sun when it comes to Satan and his minions.
As it was in days of old, the same holds true today.
They are of their father; the devil, and gladly do his bidding; steal, kill and destroy.
They’re liars and the truth is not in them.

People have realized that the gov and LE are toothless and are no longer giving them a thought rather doing what they want. What’s not like Rome here?

About ten years ago, I read the famous “The Decline and Fall of The Roman Empire” by Edward Gibbon.

It was completely depressing to me. Looked like the USA of today.

I’m in the middle of re-reading it. And yes, it is depressing yet illuminating at the same time.

Another facet of those Dark Ages was global cooling which made life ultra harsh. However, by AD 1000, the Earth had global warming with grapes for wine in Scandinavia. Warming gave Europe the renaissance which led to the Columbus discovery of The New World and the Age of Discovery. And yes, cold weather is bad for life on Planet Earth.

The term Dark Ages has taken on a meaning its coiner never intended - that was a 14th-century monk named Petrarch, who was merely describing the fact that not much in the way of history about that period was available to him as a 14th-century Italian monk in a monastery in the middle of the Black Death. (Good times, BTW. Not.)

This is different from that. Historical information these days is openly falsified, old information being suppressed, denied, "debunked", and deliberately removed from public accessibility. That is something far more corrosive than mere unavailability. It is a lockstep march toward ignorance, useful to a ruling class to maintain social control but compromised by the fact that its members believe their own garbage too. Technological progress comes to a screeching halt when it can no longer stand "on the shoulders of giants" through stored facts untainted by politics.

The Enlightenment belief that truth prevails under conditions of freedom contained the axiom that freedom must exist first. It dies when freedom dies. And freedom is being assassinated.

Cooler and drier temperatures have been association with two worldwide civilizational collapses: The Bronze Age collapse in 1200-700 BC and the Dark Ages in 500-1000 AD.
