ALICE, Texas (AP) — In 1977, Associated Press reporter James W. Mangan’s exclusive interview with a South Texas election judge who detailed certifying false votes for Lyndon B. Johnson nearly three decades earlier made headlines across the country.
With the win by an 87-vote margin in the 1948 Democratic primary runoff, Johnson, then a congressman, easily defeated his Republican opponent to take a seat in the U.S. Senate, and he eventually ascended to the presidency.
Mangan spent three years pursuing the story, which pulled back the curtain on the victory that had drawn suspicions ever since election officials in rural Jim Wells County announced the discovery of uncounted votes in ballot box known as Box 13.

It was a Democrat Primary. You only had to win the Democrat primary to be the winner in the South back then.

I’m sure the criminal RINOs in Texas today (I’m looking at Doodoo Failin’, the House Speaker) are way to the left of the Demonrats of LBJ’s era.
Even in 1952 and 1956 you already had corrupt Demonrat urban machines (and in states like TX, corrupt rural Demonrat machines). Probably have to go back to 1924 or 1928. Dems put up a centrist nominee in 1924 for President and the left lost their minds. That was the first and last time since 1892 that the party didn’t put up a left-winger. Urban/Dem cheating was at a minimum that year.
I believe this is a reprint of the story. It first came out in ‘77 or ‘78 not sure.

In 1948 in Texas? I don’t think there was much of a Republican party at that time.
Why didn’t people go to jail for questioning an election? The MSM has been preaching the narrative that it is a crime to question an election.

I’ve always thought he was the most negative POTUS in history…maybe not most incompetent, that might be Biden.
