Scams target the elderly because they are sometimes easily fooled. Putin and Xi like this a lot.
I admit it...I’m bad with money, apparently even incurring tax liabilities with the government. But thank goodness John with the IRS called me and I got THAT straightened out. I’ve just returned from the post office where I mailed the ten $500 gift cards to John. That’ll take care of the money I owe to the IRS.
I hope to be a better steward of my money in other areas from now on.

My mom is pretty much deaf, so no problem with phone calls and mostly blind so no computer stuff. I handle her affairs.

My mother got such a call from a young man claiming to be her grandson - jailed for something stupid and desperately needing a lot of money for bail and car repairs - like thousands of dollars.
She asked him his middle name and he quickly hung up.
I DO NOT answer calls from unknown numbers - anyone who needs to reach me can leave a voice mail. I’ve told all of my elderly relatives same.
Scammers not just targeting older Americans Biden is in office age isn’t the problem it’s lack of thinking.
Don’t answer the phone unless:
1) You know who it is and
2) You want to talk to them.
Let them talk to voice mail. If it is important you can call them back.
Imagine being Liawatha and being on a committee investigating scams and fraud lol.
I preferred life before the internet, social media, and AI.
