The Bay Area overwhelmingly supports the Giants.

A lot of things have changed in Oakland. It’s not just about sports.

4 Dallas–Fort Worth–Arlington, TX 7,943,685
13 San Francisco–Oakland–Fremont, CA MSA 4,579,599

I could make the case that Dallas and Fort Worth could have their own teams, over the case of San Francisco and Oakland having teams.

So DFW compromised and put the team in Arlington, between Dallas and Fort Worth.

Are we counting teams that have moved to suburban locations, such as how the Washington Redskins/Commanders play in Maryland? NY Giants and Jets play in New Jersey? The New England Patriots were the Boston Patriots, but moved to an area between Boston and Providence and renamed themselves as New England?

I’ve heard the Athletics had been looking at other stadium sites in the Bay Area for over 10 years.

I think they wanted to get a mixed use development such as the Atlanta Braves built with their new stadium. And apparently the Oakland waterfront was ripe for redevelopment. I don’t recall what happened, but the Oakland waterfront deal fell apart. And based on that, this supposedly led to today’s vote to move the team.

Carry that forward to today, though. The Black percentage has halved as Hispanics moved in.

When the A’s moved to the Bay Area, it was the 6th largest metropolitan area in the Country. California was growing and the West didn’t have as many baseball teams as it does now, so it wasn’t a foolish move. Now San Francisco/Oakland is the 12th largest metro area, and it doesn’t seem like there’s any more reason to give it two teams than to give Miami, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Boston, Dallas, Phoenix or DC two teams.

My hometown of Jackson Mississippi was around 75-80% white 40-60 years ago and bucolic old south historical town

Now it’s the opposite at 85% black

And it’s arguably the worst town of 600,000 metro there is in America

All $$$ except northeast white pocket has fled to three surrounding counties or the nw fairly unpopulated metro county of hinds to the west

Well, given their recent performance, the Las Vegas Craps might be more appropriate...

“Until some woke POS ruined that tribute.”

They always do. They are only concerned with their chance for empty virtue signalling, the actual facts are of no interest to them.

Good luck with that.

“Yes. But...water?”

Yeah they might want to figure that one out. But the same goes for SoCal and Arizona.

Years ago some engineer suggested running an undersea pipeline shipping fresh water from the Columbia River down to California. Apparently this is actually feasible, it’s not just some goofy idea.

But we are no longer a serious country willing to do major projects.
