She is right ... Alaska is an island

and that map sure is flat.

Public school should be like public housing ..a last resort for those truly in need. With just the basics.

When I was in high school in Sacramento I got into trouble with my history teacher because I said gold was discovered in Coloma and not Sacramento like the book said. The same book mislabeled the SF Bay Bridge as the Golden Gate and I ended up in detention.

It got better when one day she let on that she didn’t know where the Sacramento River was even though it was maybe a half mile from the school.

Many years ago I was sitting in a college library when several teachers masters students came in and were discussing their geography exam. All three failed. The exam was a map of the United States without the names of the states on each state. Their test was to write the names of the states on the state. Passing grade was 60%.

I found where she got that perception. If you read her full story, she infers she thought Alaska, according to maps, is disconnected and should be warm like Hawaii. This is I believe what she’s referring to.
