Not just volume control. That was an uncontrolled emotional outburst similar to Tourette’s syndrome.
We went through many years of this with my father as his dementia progressed. To the point it was dangerous to take him into public because he would cause conflict with people.
Agree his give away is when he yells the bigger the lie and same for his whispers.
All the rest is mumbling gibberish to kill time.
