Perhaps he realizes what a big mistake he made going against Trump by running for president now. He’s probably ruined his future in politics.

The guy acts like he’s been involuntarily thrust onto the public stage, and is doing his best to make it up as he goes along. I've been saying that since he announced. I think his big never-Trump donors told him he has to run now or they will never support him in the future.
I think Trump caught wind of it and that's why he started in early on dissing DeSantis when most of us couldn't understand why.
