Greeley arson homicide suspects have separate upcoming court hearings [woman stabbed man to death in his home, then burned it down]

One of the women accused of killing a 35-year-old Greeley man and lighting his house on fire in October 2021 has a disposition hearing conference set for April while the other will appear in court Friday.

Hosanna Varela, 24, appeared in person for a disposition hearing Tuesday afternoon before Weld Judge Vincente Vigil. Her defense attorneys Havilah Lilly and Keith Coleman requested an additional disposition.

Greeley police arrested Varela and 21-year-old Stacy Rodriguez in November 2021 on suspicion of first-degree murder, arson and burglary, as well as charges of tampering with evidence.

arela and Rodriguez’s case date back to Oct. 3. 2021, when a caller reported a large house fire in the 2400 block of 15th Avenue Court. The caller believed the 35-year-old Chris Dickerson, the home’s resident, was still inside when reporting the fire.

Upon the arrival of Greeley police and fire, the home was fully engulfed in flames, resulting in a total loss. Inside the home near the front entrance, first responders found the body of Dickerson located on the floor. His body was burned beyond recognition.

Dickerson also had stab wounds on his neck. The Weld County Coroner’s Office ruled his cause of death as homicide due to an autopsy revealing he died before the fire started.

Police reviewed video surveillance from 11 downtown businesses and footage from the residence during their investigation. Footage captured Varela and Rodriguez interacting with Dickerson in downtown Greeley. It also showed they were at his residence on the morning of the fire.
