Flimsy excuse. Since you’re not an American, you wouldn’t know that the Confederate States of America managed to have them even though they were in a worse situation than Ukraine. The USA also managed.

If you are an American you should remember that we were in a Civil War. Ukraine is suffering an attempted invasion of the entire country. Ukraine is also experiencing intermittent bombing of cities and towns throughout the entire country. Although we had terrible battles and some concentrated attacks on cities, neather the North nor the South ever experienced the kind of all over and frequent unpredictable bombing that Ukraine is suffering. Any attempted election in Ukraine would establish many civilian targets Putin’s army would love to attack. So Ukraine law wisely avoids creating these tempting illegal targets.
