take an image of a dog, alter it in subtle ways, so that it still looks like a dog to you and I — except to the AI, it now looks like a cat,”
= = =

Sounds like putting a Demon in the image; making it possessed.

AI is scary, but apparently, this is what Bill Gates wants. He says the age of AI has begun.

I am not sure what the problem is. Is AI using an exact copy of an image or is it just learning what things are (such as young child learns looking at picture books).

I may be wrong, but a copyright protects YOUR image of a tree, but it does not protect images of trees.

There are most likely trillions of images stored around the world. If they are just teaching AI what a “tree” is, and by extension the various species of trees how is anyone going to prove that an AI’s drawing of a tree came from their collection?

Did Andy Warhol owned the copyright on Campbell’s soup (no).

Artist have for centuries copied features and techniques from other artist and that appears to be what AI is doing.

As long as they are not presenting the creation as the art of a particular artist (forgery) then (in my unlawyerly ) opinion they can’t do much to stop it.

Proves how useless the artists are.

Let them do real work or starve.

Authoritarians are well aware that appealing to a scarcity mentality never fails.
