POLK COUNTY, Fla. - An elementary school teacher was arrested for a DUI after deputies nabbed her with a blood alcohol level nearly three times the legal limit, according to the Polk County Sheriff's Office.
Leslie Spence of Tampa was arrested and charged with driving under the influence after she was pulled over on Friday night in Lake Wales. She was also given a citation for failing to maintain a single lane.
A witness reported a vehicle driving east on State Road 60 at about 25 mph, swerving across lanes, according to deputies.
A Polk County Sheriff's Deputy was able to catch up to Spence in a Ford SUV and initiated a traffic stop just before 11 p.m. The 52-year-old woman had slurred speech with a strong order of an alcoholic beverage, deputies said. Her eyes were also bloodshot and watery.
After a field sobriety test, Spence was arrested for DUI, according to the Polk County Sheriff's Office.
"My father is a lawyer and he will sue every single one of you," Spence told a deputy at one point during her arrest.

Is she even a biological female?!
“POLK COUNTY, Fla.”
I fell sorry for the poor [though actually GREAT!] County Sheriff.
[”Florida Woman”....]
Where does RdS get these people?
Did she have fries with that?
Liberal illogic:
If you drive about 1/3 of the speed limit, doesn’t that cancel out driving with about 3 times the legal alcohol limit???
An often repeated line that has never once worked when one is under arrest for DUI.
The term coyote comes to mind.
It also doesn’t work when well when you are 52 years old and threatening people with your father.
When I was cuffed for a DUI, I said, is this really necessary? Cost me 10k. Really a bad night.
However, she doesn’t look so young. Unlike with me, I guess she never got the chance to get her mind right. (‘Cool Hand Luke’ reference there.)
Statement from the school:
“As we are a public school and promoting and enabling child abuse is our top priority, we will be commending this fine teacher and immediately giving her a huge raise.”
Why is local news national. Drunk happens to be teacher while husband of speaker of the house treated differently.
Definitely Guilty. Times three.
“It’s Pat!”
Th “legal limit” is an arbitrary number. A very small amount of alcohol is needed to reach the “legal limit”. Many people drive with alcohol over the “legal limit” with no impairment to their driving skills. Twice the “legal limit” was the “legal limit” in a lot of states before the Federal Government forced every state to conform to a standard. Now the number is bandied about as if it had some actual meaning.
I’m sure he hand picked them
Good grief. You’ve got it bad.
You can just tell - despite the enigmatic, Mona Lisa-esque smile, she’s madder ‘n hell. She f’$@ked up bad, and she knows it.
Therefore, you must be punished.
This is correct, and in a lot of ways I agree with you.
But she was s&@$tfaced, weaving across the road, driving erratically. I don’t care what she blew for BAC - sometimes that takes hours. She ain’t too bright, and she was dumb enough to threaten the arresting officer with lawsuits from dear old dad.
What school does she teach at in Tampa? We’re usually regaled with tales of granular detail in most stories. Not here though. Must be a small town of only 400,000 or something. Just that single Elementary school.
