But speaking of Houston and Elm...

About 40 years ago I was in that city (for the first time) for a convention and noticed on the map (paper in those days) that I could walk to the vicinity of Houston and Elm from my hotel. So, I took a detour from the convention and walked there. It was an interesting experience to visit something that you had seen a million times in hundreds of photographs, films and illustrations, for the prior two decades. It formed an impression of scale and distance in my mind that was contradicted by the first experience of being there and walking the site. Everything in reality was a much tighter scale and the distances were much closer than the impression I had from the frequently repeated images. I immediately thought, yeah, it could be done. It was not an impossible feat.
