If Judge Cannon postpones May 20 trial for classified docs case, all the usual suspects will caterwaul that she’s a Trump judge doing his bidding.
But this is by design Jack Smith’s fault. He brought J6 indictment nearly 2 months after classified docs indictment. In between, he filed a superseding indictment in FLA adding more charges and a co-defendant essentially resetting the clock.
He then pushed for a March trial in J6 case, an expedited schedule without precedent in J6 trials. In fact, Smith pushed for the trial to start on the same day as a pre-scheduled hearing in Cannon’s courtroom.
Smith’s team claims DC trial will take 4-6 weeks—unlikely since jury selection should take several days. Trump’s lawyers argued today the trial could last more than 2 months, pushing it right to beginning of FLA trial.
Not to mention Smith’s foot dragging on discovery.
