Russia continues the criminal practice of illegally transferring Ukrainian citizens to its territory!

According to my information, First Deputy Chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people Nariman Dzhelyal and Crimean Tatar activist Aziz Akhtemov are being illegally transferred to Minusinsk in eastern Siberia. Political prisoner Asan Akhtemov is on his way to Vladimir.

Where exactly Nariman Dzhelal is now and what is his state of Health is still unknown, because for several weeks he has not been in touch with his wife.

By transferring Ukrainian citizens to its territory, the Russian Federation grossly violates the Geneva Conventions and the norms of international humanitarian law regarding the humane treatment of civilians during war. In particular, the occupying state has no right to forcibly move civilians from the occupied territory to its own.

Moreover, Ukrainian citizens from the temporarily occupied Crimea are being pressured and tested by the harsh climate. After all, according to European penitentiary rules, prisoners must be sent to serve their sentences in institutions located near the city of residence.

The ECtHR has also recognized in its practice that placing convicts in a remote colony (located several thousand kilometers from the city where their families live) constitutes an interference with their rights under Article 8 of the convention for the protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms.

The international community must respond decisively to the violation of international humanitarian law by the Russian Federation and demand the immediate release of all illegally imprisoned citizens of Ukraine!
