Rand Paul: The AARP-UnitedHealth Alliance Is Putting Seniors Last
Townhall ^ | Oct 25 | Sen. Rand Paul

Posted on 10/30/2023 3:04:13 AM PDT by RandFan

AARP, once known as the American Association of Retired Persons, is still mistakenly perceived by many as a senior’s group, despite its significant transformation in recent years. In fact, the organization no longer represents anything substantial, as its original purpose and commitment to advancing the interests of seniors have seemingly vanished.

Today, AARP primarily functions as a marketing and advocacy tool for United Health, the largest health insurance company in the United States. Rather than prioritizing the well-being of seniors, AARP appears to be more focused on promoting the interests of this corporate entity. Furthermore, it is disheartening to observe that AARP's revenue is channeled into supporting Democratic candidates and causes, further blurring the lines between its supposed mission and partisan politics.

Most seniors and members of AARP are unaware of a crucial fact that highlights the organization's financial interests. AARP's revenue is not primarily derived from membership dues but from lucrative corporate royalty arrangements, notably their highly profitable deal with UnitedHealth, one of the nation's largest health insurance conglomerates. In fact, UnitedHealth's revenues now surpass those of banking giant JP Morgan.

Under this arrangement, UnitedHealth pays AARP a significant portion of every monthly premium received from its AARP-branded Medicare plans, amounting to approximately $800 million per year. That is according to Juniper Research analysis. AARP stopped disclosing the exact amount about five years ago. This financial partnership has given AARP substantial clout, allowing it to become a formidable political force.

AARP has been nothing but an insurance marketing racket for as long as I can remember. RP is just now finding this out?

I do not like that so many senior discounts (restaurants, hotels, etc.) require an AARP card for the discount. AARP can go fly a kite.

(I can't say what I really think...)

I love getting all those AARP mailers with a “free” ID card. My shredder gets hungry.

Last year I asked a representative for a marketing firm …. Is there an insurance provider not utilizing call centers outside of the USA ? The answer shocked me … the answer of the representative of a marketing firm told me NO. Does anyone on this thread know of an insurance provider NOT Using Call Centers outside of USA ?

I too was a “member” of AARP, only to get discounts on lodging, I traveled a lot on business.

I subscribed on one of their “deals” for 2 years.

When it expired I still had the card and the motels and hotels would just see the card and give me the deal. Smile.

Later, the motel/hotel chains that I normally stayed with had their own good deals for business travelers an it no longer was important.

But Yes, I hated Leftist AARP from the beginning.

Having once been a member, find their alternative to be a much
better organization. AARP is nothing more than another arm
of the DNC and not worth the cost of membership.
Obama care fiasco opened the eyes of many seniors (as well as the eyes of soon to be seniors).

Non-profit organizations (whether charitable, religious, community-service, or other) are each vulnerable to their internal bureaucracy's interests when they reach a certain size. They morph into something different...they take on a life of their own and forget about their original intentions.

It's similar to (but not precisely like) the old saying, "When you're up to your ass in alligators, it's hard to remember that your objective was to drain the swamp."

All large and growing organizations have their own internal alligators who want to increase their power and make more money...and to hell with the original objective.

Yes, USAA has US based representatives and are based in San Antonio. I just switched to them. But my father in law used them for many many years. He tried to get me to switch many years ago, but I had a company that had always treated me well.

They only sell insurance to active military, vets and family of vets. So far, I am pretty happy with them.

I’m 75, had the same insurance company for 30 years. Then things started to change in the Insurance industry. They are all computer stupid today.

I’ve spent a lot of time trying to switch from companies who subscribe to the ESG (& ChiCom social scoring system). Almost all of the Insurance companies are associated with ESG. And almost all banks. Just do a search with insurance company’s name and ESG and you will see how difficult it is to find one.

When you go to the company website, most of the time, there is a cute little Chinese lady telling you how great ESG is.

I’ve called my Medicare Advantage provider, Ultimate, a few times and they at least seem to be American.

You know they’re a fraud for their support of commie care.

They lauded the benefits of socialized medicine as a great advantage for seniors.

However, they forgot to mention that under socialized medicine, there is rationing.

And guess what age group is the first to have treatment rationed away from them...

And what most people don’t understand is that in socialized systems, you can’t even get procedures outside the system by paying cash (unless you leave the country).

Socialized medicine is simply “soft” euthanasia for seniors.
