That is absurd. Hungary was in the EU for 20 years, and besides that had a long history of orderly government as a part of the Habsburg empire, and semi or full independence as a modern state. Hungary was not a dependency of Austria but, most of the time, an almost equal partner. A lot of Eastern Europe was ruled, by Hungarians, from Budapest.
Hungary has been in the heart of Europe, culturally, for a thousand years. Its language of governance and education was Latin, until just the last century. Its been continuously Catholic also for a millenia.
Ukraine was an imperial possession of Russia, Imperial or Soviet, sharing all its backwardness and savagery.
Our goodbuddies Ukraine.
Ukraine abstained in the anti-Israel resolution that passed the UN General Assembly yesterday 120-14 with 45 abstentions...
Couldn’t even help with a small thing like this.
Maybe it was. Would that really bother you so much if we reframed it that way? As a student of history, I recall from my studies that we had a lot of military interactions with England, after gaining independence, testing it if you will and yes, these could be seen initially as potentially a Civil War if England had chosen to escalate.
I agree with your priorities but not with the premise that we cannot support both Israel and Ukraine and defend our borders. Indeed, if Trump gets back in, he will do precisely that.
First off, how is pinging people into a comment "cowardly." It's a common practice on FR and is used by many, including me. The only time it annoys me is when someone I have asked not to ping me continues doing so. Other than that, I don't see why anyone would have a problem with pinging people, no matter how many they choose to ping.
"I don't know what you mean about rabid support for Ukraine." Man, I just speed read ~40 pages of your forum comments: Most are in rabid support of and in defense of Youcrayne with plenty of personal insults thrown at those who oppose sinking US money into that kleptocracy. And your "go to" move is a Youkazoid classic which goes something like this: "If you don't support Youcrayne then you're a Putin Stooge!" Ugh. I found not one criticism of Youcrayne from you, which is as corrupt and as degenerate (if not more so) as Ruzzzziiiiiiaaaaa is.
Just so we're clear on matters of religious mockery: I loathe the mocking of religions or of sacred objects or rituals. I'm a Catholic and I hate it when people mock Christ or His Church, but as far as "defending Jesus" goes, I'm pretty sure he can well defend himself. Now, I seriously dislike Islam for several reasons, and I take issue with Hinduism too, but I would never mock them, nor would I insult that which is religiously dear to a Jew, Buddhist, or Rastafarian. Not my thing.
BTW, I've said a million times here that I loathe Putin - and I do. But I could not GAF about Ruzzzziiiiaaaa for one reason: It's not Ruzzziiiiiiaaaa that hundreds of billions of US taxpayers' hard earned dollars are being squandered on.
Ukraine just can’t irritate their nazis.
I asked a simple question and you failed to answer so yes you were pinged here to troll me and have no problem with me being called masturbator in the post that pinged you. In fact you pretend that is normal from your experience.
I post about many things... and I defend myself from being trolled about supporting Ukraine. Nothing I post is rabid support for Ukraine. I even admitted to you that it is not for Putin to fix the corruption of Ukraine. So stop your trolling.
Its an issue of “reframing” as a propagandistic maneuver.
Looked at as a matter of geopolitics it (the war of 1812) was a war, plain and simple, with international consequences.
The US effectively came to war in aid of Napoleon, by harassing British trade, by invading its colony of Canada, and diverting resources from continental Europe, in particular from the British efforts in Spain. Britain was stretched at the time, both fiscally and in military manpower.
The war of 1812 mattered, as the Ukraine war matters, in current geopolitics.
It already has collapsed. Doesn’t matter whether I hope it does or not. Their own dysfunction has brought about its collapse. It’s sad, but they only have incompetent and criminal leadership for 32 years to blame.
As for America, we need to stay out of foreign conflicts. There is literally no reason for us to be involved in a civil war between the Ukraine and Russia. Israel can also handle itself, too. If there are American hostages in a foreign locale, that would make it our business, but only in that instance.
NATO needs to be disbanded, as a warmongering globalist enforcement arm. It completed its assigned mission in 1991. Thankfully, it appears President Trump will remove us from it, which will force Europe either to financially sustain it or end it.
We’ve been over this before. And it was already confirmed. For someone in The Ukraine, you seem to be the last to know about what’s going on.
So Hungary was not under the control of Moscow post-WW2 until 1990 ? Have you told them that ?
Notice that one was still attacking me AFTER the edict from the Mods. They also started the flamewar, too.
My own rules:
Try to avoid using the word, “you.”
Limit adverbs and adjectives.
Spell check.
Re-read, and again, because the the chance that I wrote “the the” . . . happens.
Uh-huh?

I just did it again, repeated “are are” . . . sigh.
I forgive you.
It was. But they recovered better and faster as a result of their cultural capital built up throughout their history. They knew how to be a decent country, though they were prevented from being so. As also did East Germany, the Czechs, etc. The Czechs are an even better example. These countries were especially ready to resume their old roles and status in Europe.
Both Russia and Ukraine are at the bottom of the cultural capital ladder, as Europe goes (Ok, Albania may be worst). Ukraine, at least, wants to improve. Russia is going to be lost for a long time more.
Not our circus.
Not our monkeys.
