Kurt Schlichter is normally quite sound, and this was a matter of prudential strategy rather than principle. Gaetz played a game of "chicken", and it worked out. It often doesn't. I was glad he did it, because things would get no better with McCarthy, but I understand the feelings of the risk averse.
