It's about getting "research" grant money. Mention GW, and you get your own line in the budget.
I suspect that is why some scientists throw in the line “caused by global warming” into their proposals and discussions of their research. They think that it will give their proposal a higher score, making it more likely to be funded, even though “climate change” has nothing to do with their research. I don’t know that it actually changes their overall score, but they think it does.
I have never personally known a scientist who mentioned “global warming” or “climate change” in their grant proposals. I used to oversee at least a dozen research groups; I’ve read my fair share of proposals! Yes, science does get funded if the proposal that does not mention GW or CC is sound.
