Why can’t a kid just say,“I am sixteen, I’ve had enough. I want to get out of this idiocy. Let me take the GED.”

If you are enrolled in a high school program, why can’t you be allowed to take the GED and quit whenever you want?

What we have now is a system just to warehouse kids and brainwash them. Attendance requirements are made just to provide employment for social workers.

My friends I've been saying these things right here. Just think of how parents can work closely with their kids as adults for 2 years before they turn 18.

The public education system is just a jobs program and a political constituency construct.

Or they start college, or trade school, or a job.

If a kid is 16, they can take the GED and then go to the community college.

Start with red states. Then the big whammy-

Allow blue state 16 year-olds to take the red state tests and upon passing guess what?
They get their own diploma. If I were Ron DeSantis I’d send a group of proxy testers to the blue states and give them the test. Hire Hillsdale graduates to do the work.

Just think what the left education establishment will do to stop it. They’re already giving diplomas to students who can’t read them. Skim the cream off the top. The left does it with their tax policies.

I’ve been helping to homeschool my two granddaughters. My neighbors finally threw in the towel on even our local, rural school district’s crap. My 11 year old neighbor did not go back last week after fall break. She has joined our classes and her mom is going to be our new science teacher. I don’t think there is any other solution. Get them out before you lose them.

The problem is that it would be unfair to let “non-disadvantaged students” test out ahead of others that have been oppressed by society.

hardspunned-that’s good but it will take forever. The idea is to be a disturber of the excrement and the 1-2 kids in your household allow for our enemies to concentrate their wrath on you alone.

Some governor or DJT needs to plant the seed.

Veteran urban public high school teacher here. For me, Job One would be the return of the trades programs to the high schools. Not everyone should be in an academic track. Not everyone needs to go to college.

Yes, we need engineers and dentists. But we also need plumbers and carpenters and electricians.

And as a side point, the high school where I taught had an awesome carpentry program. It was destroyed by George W. Bush’s ‘No Child Left Behind’. NCLB emphasized the college prep courses. It gave no weight at all to the trades programs.

And so all the trades programs slowly went away.

For all the damage he did, George W. Bush can go to hell.

Wasn’t that way before we had the private resources to educate.
Public education has become a cesspool and is not even doing its job. And yes, you are absolutely correct.
Public education could be destroyed by educating privately for much less.

Wonderful! Good luck. When I taught in Ohio there was a group of very dedicated homeschooled kids. They had so many wonderful trips and really got to learn in depth what interested them.

I was a certified teacher & one mom asked me to review their work so that I could sign off on their year. It was a requirement at the time. I was so impressed with their poise, intelligence, and the things they knew. That’s when I really understood why dedicated people choose to homeschool.

This is a big goldmine of an issue for ‘24. Think wokeism-men competing in women sports. Don’t forget bathroom choice. It would fall under school choice.

Will republicans see the opportunity? I think not. Perhaps a California initiative similar to Prop 13(1978) would raise the proper hell. I think we’d win even if such a proposition were defeated.

Let the 16 year old GED passers attend these trade schools for the whole day.

Never happen... because the modern public ‘education system’ isn’t about what the kids know.... It is about what they believe, and our leftist perfessers of propaganda don’t want to lose control over them when they are still young and easily impressionable.

It was that, now its an indoctrination program. The Jobs don’t exist in the USA anymore but the aperatus exists and was taken over by the left.

Solution: no public education. Government schools are nothing more than indoctrination centers. Dewey’s goal has finally been attained.
Abolish tax funded public schools. That would make property taxes almost disappear and help the working class, something all leftists constantly proclaim.
You want your child to be educated? Send them to a private school or home school. Look at what Oregon is doing—they are renouncing the very principle of education due to their leftist nonsense.
If parents want their children to succeed, they will renounce public education.

My late uncle actually quit high school at age 16 because it bored him, then took and passed the entrance exam for Harvard. In those days, you could get in by passing an entrance exam.

This was roughly the same time period that Ted Kennedy got in based on his family legacy and was flunked out for hiring another student to take his Spanish test.

My Unk proceeded to earn a Harvard MBA, then a PhD elsewhere and went on to a lucrative career in international business and later as a college professor and dean of a business college in Minnesota. When people asked him for advice at family reunions, he'd give a deadpan shrug and say "How do you expect me to know, I'm a high school dropout."

48 yrs ago I was suspended repeatedly, then expelled for having long hair. They put me in some lame 2 yr. program to prep for the G.E.D., sitting around with a bunch of social workers all day who made no attempt at education, it was like a drum-circle full of hippies. I quit after a couple of weeks. When I decided to go to college 2 yrs. later I went in cold with no prep and aced the G.E.D. test, getting the highest score in the history of the state. From there I went on and got my Masters Degree. So, yeah, high schools are basically govt warehouses. I'm sure many, many kids could do the same thing and expose this system.

Public schools won't allow this because they need the bodies in the seats for funding.

They will call it "white flight" and force the kids to suffer through the last two years of school because the alternative is having to teach just the "left behinds" who can't test out.
