Why only Quebec can claim poutine
BBC ^ | 5/6/21 | BBC

Political tensions are never far from the surface in this Canadian province, even when it comes to this beloved snack of French fries, cheese curds and gravy.

"It is the unofficial official dish of Canada. In fact, if they could make it look good on a flag, the maple leaf's days might be numbered," Jamie Oliver quipped in an article about making the perfect poutine. As harmless as Oliver's comment appears, it's the perfect example of how a dish that stirs real feelings of heritage and culture in the Canadian province of Quebec may slowly be losing its regional identity.

Whether it's from a busy late-night diner or a quiet countryside cafe, poutine's combination of French fries topped with fresh salty cheese curds and a rich meaty gravy remains a simple, timeless comfort food.

Spotted Dick and Sticky Toffee pudding. Not to mention rice pudding with raisins and a tablespoon of navy rum. YUM!
French fries, due to a natural repulsion of things “French” are call chips, so potato chips are called crisps. Chips (FF) are always cooked in beef drippings and are best served with battered haddock, salt, and malt vinegar. Chip shop near us sells a 12-13 inch haddock fillet and a mountain of chips for £5.00.

I only like my french fries hot and crisp and with ketchup on the side. Poutine is a miserable mess of soggy french fries. It is heart attack food. I don’t get it,

Know where French fries were first made?

In Greece.

Cheeze curds and fries covered in gravy. Served with a Pepsi. Jello for desert.

THAT is the traditional meal of Quebec. A "Pepsi" is a slang term for les Québécois.

I wonder what my great-grandfather, a Québécois, would have thought of poutine.

I don't eat fish or seafood, but that's a damn good price for a meal in today's world!!
