McDonalds fries were the best ever until they started using oil instead of lard…..now they are blah.

Cheeze curds and fries covered in gravy. Served with a Pepsi. Jello for desert.

THAT is the traditional meal of Quebec. A "Pepsi" is a slang term for les Québécois.

The best local food was in the downtown area, near the river.

Must be talking about old Montreal? I’ve had a few fine meals there...

You just reminded me of my all-time favorite SCTV skit

I don’t know what cheese curds are, but I’m pretty sure I don’t want to eat one.

“McDonalds fries were the best ever”

They were heavenly back in the ‘60s. Would melt in your mouth.

I see bacon bits in that particular example. Bacon makes everything taste better.

C’mon, don’t think it’s a culinary delicacy just cause it’s French.

It’s just the easy they like their Freedom Fries.

C’mon. Don’t think it’s a culinary delicacy just cause it’s French.

It’s just the way they make Freedom Fries up there.

I like a little teriyaki sauce on fries. Fries dipped in soft-serve vanilla ice cream are good, too.

Genuine cheese curds squeak when you chew them. That’s part of the fun of poutine. I’ve only had the real thing once, at a place in B.C., but I’d certainly have it again if the opportunity arose. Cheese curds, fries, and good gravy is a great combination IMHO (tasty gravy is probably key). The picture in the lead post shows bacon and chives added - I’d like that.

So funny! Thanks for digging up that clip. SCTV, damn that was a funny show! Nothing
remotely like it now. At the time, SNL, SCTV, and National Lampoon were all hysterically funny.

Cheese curds are a lot like a mozzarella stick cheese. Squeaky.

I saw this on menus in Manchester, NH, which has a large Franco-American population (actually descended from Quebeckers).

Prefer chili (ground beef and beans), shredded cheese and gravy over my fries. Also prefer my curds deep fried (but not with my fries).

If you can find a Whataburger, their fries are pretty close to the old Mcdonald’s fries, you just need to add more salt. Their spicy ketchup is great!

Yeah, they're terrible. I think they taste like cardboard. It's one of the reasons I don't go to McDonald's very often. I never really cared for their hamburgers. Liked their breakfast sandwiches instead, and when they used the lockdown to get rid of their all-day breakfast, that was the end for me. The last time I was up early enough to stop to get a sandwich from them, was back in January after I had cataract surgery.

I thought this was going to be about “puntain”, which would be quite fitting for Quebec.
